Educational Visits and Residential Trips

At Lanchester EP, we firmly believe that our children learn best when they can see, hear, and experience things first-hand. We recognise that all of our children need the knowledge, skills and understanding to live in, and contribute to, a global society.

 

Educational visits are an essential element of our planning and practice and at Lanchester EP. We pride ourselves on the wide range of visits and residential trips that we offer our children to enhance their learning at school.  Providing a variety of ‘real-life’ opportunities enables them to achieve a fuller understanding of the world around them through direct experience.  All of our trips and visits are planned to help to develop self-esteem, self-confidence and independence. They also give our children the opportunity to take part in engaging and exciting experiences in order to broaden their horizons and knowledge.

Our Residential Visits
Year 3 - Birdoswald Roman Fort
Our Year 3 children have the opportunity to go to bed and wake up in a Roman Fort. We will enjoy the remains of all of the Wall's longest remaining stretch and explore the ruins of the Roman fort, a turret and milecastle. This is an amazing overnight stay where the children can imagine what life would have been like on the edge of the Roman Empire. 
Year 4 - Alnwick Castle & Seahouses
As part of our Potions topic, the Year 4 children spend a night on the Northumberland coast at Seahouses. During the two day visit they have the opportunity to sketch Bamburgh Castle, explore Alnwick Castle (with its Harry Potter experiences) and spend time in Alnwick Gardens (even venturing into the Forbidden Garden!) Any visit to the coast has to include a fish and chip supper - which the children thoroughly enjoy.
Year 5 - PGL
Our Year 5 residential visit is set in the heart of the Lincolnshire countryside. We enjoy the beautiful grounds at Caythorpe which are packed full of adventures on land and water, designed to inspire, motivate and challenge. Whether it’s a leap for the trapeze bar or a team canoeing challenge, the activities we take part in encourage each individual to enjoy learning something new. There are great facilities too, including a sports hall, a lake for watersports, playing fields and plenty of classroom space.
Year 6 - Northern Ireland

Our week long visit to Northern Ireland links to our work on Crime and Punishment and Coastlines. Once we disembark the ferry in Belfast, we head Crumlin Road Goal. This fascinating tour allows us to discover over 150 years of history in Northern Irelands only remaining Victorian era prison, which housed men women and children. Our visit also takes us the Giant's Causeway which comprises around 40,000 mostly hexagonal basalt columns descending gently into the sea. Depending on who you believe, the stones were formed either by an underwater volcano’s geological actions or by a giant named Finn McCool. Other stop offs on our tour include, Splash water park, Belfast Zoo and the W5 science museum.
